What is your primary product or service?
We sell Steak Escape franchises and operate Steak Escape restaurants here in Columbus, and throughout the US. We also franchise internationally.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
EEL was founded by Mark Turner and Ken Smith both of whom had moved to Columbus after growing up on the East Coast. Here in the early 80s they were unable to find great cheesesteak sandwiches and decided to start their own restaurant in an effort to bring this great product to Central Ohio. With the success of the first restaurant in the old French Market, soon they began franchising and the rest, as they say, is history.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Our product is still the highest quality you can find in the quick serve restaurant industry. We still use fresh ingredients and cook every product to order. Our competitors can not honestly make this claim. They've long since given up on the idea that you can make a great product AND a profitable restaurant at the same time. We preserve that formula and share it with our franchisees.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have well over 100 and plan to expand significantly in the midwest and southeastern US in 2010 and 2011.
